    What is a Degreaser?

    A degreaser, in the detailing world, is a powerful cleaning product that can be used on a variety of surfaces and provide many beneficial features. Degreasers can be used to clean engines, tires, machinery, tools, garage floors, or heavily soiled areas. It is used to remove and dissolve mud, brake dust, grease, or stubborn oil-based stains. 

     

    What Ingredients are Found in Degreasers?

    Ingredients and the formulation of degreasers can vary depending on manufacturers, but some common ingredients you can find in these products are

    1. Surfactants help lift grease and oil stains from a vehicle's surface. The surface tension allows for the product to spread and penetrate the affected areas effectively.
    2. Solvents also work to dissolve and remove stubborn contaminants. Types of solvents in degreasers are citrus-based solvents, petroleum distillates, and alcohol. 
    3. Emulsifiers allow for an easier cleaning process as it disperses and suspends the oil in the water. 
    4. Alkaline agents aid in the cleaning process itself. They are great at removing organic materials and oil or grease. Types of alkaline agents are sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.
    5. Acidic agents also aid in the cleansing process, but they target more of the inorganic substances such as rust. Types of acidic agents include phosphoric acid or citric acid.
    6. Chelating agents remove mineral deposits or stains that can be caused by hard water. These agents improve the cleaning efficiency and make the process much easier.

     

    How to Use Degreasers?

    Instructions may vary from brand to brand; however, a general guide to using these products is as follows

    1. Depending on the amount you are using, dilution may be necessary. Although most 16 oz bottles are ready to use, larger quantities should be diluted 1:10 when dealing with heavy grease or oil stains, and a ratio of 1:20 is good for general cleaning.
    2. Park your vehicle in a shaded or cool spot.
    3. Apply the ready to use or diluted solution to a sponge, Nylex Handle Brush, or Round Applicator Pad. 
    4. Gently agitate the surface to help lift the dirt.
    5. Rinse thoroughly with water from top to bottom.

    Warranty

    Under normal and reasonable use, products that are produced by Shift Products Ltd. are warrantied against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. Our Internal fender mounting brackets are also under warranty for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. This warranty is only applicable to the original buyer and is not-transferrable. Our warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of parts that are determined to be defective at the discretion of Shift Products Ltd. All installation costs, transportation costs, paint costs or, loss of use, is not covered under this warranty. Any claims not submitted within the warrantied period shall conclusively be deemed waived by the purchaser. Should it be determined, by Shift Products Ltd. in its sole and final discretion, that a Shift Products Ltd. product is covered by this limited warranty, it will be replaced, by a comparable model. This limited warranty does not apply that result from damages to the product, improper assembly, incidents with an alteration or modification, improper repair or maintenance, crash, accident or collision, or other abnormal or improper use of the product.

    All items that are sold by Shift Products Ltd. may not be legal for street use in all states/provinces. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to comply with applicable state and provincial laws. Purchasers must understand that parts manufactured or sold by Shift Products Ltd may not meet U.S. Federal and State safety crash guidelines and Canadian safety crash guidelines. Shift Products Ltd. is not responsible or liable for any damages, injuries, possible in-juries or death(s) incurred and the purchaser/user agrees to indemnify Shift Products Ltd. against any and all such claims. All products should be used for their intended purposes only. Shift Products Ltd. does not take any responsibility over installation or modification; the buyer assumes all responsibilities for determining the suitability of the products.

    Shift Products Ltd. recommends that all products be installed by professionals. The purchaser understands that some products may require modifications for correct fitment. Adjustments may be necessary as part of the normal installation process. Please note that product modifications by Shift Products Ltd. may change at any given time without notice.

    When making a claim under this Limited Warranty you are required to provide the following to Shift Products Ltd.
    1. A photo of the product (or the affected part)
    2. A copy of the original proof of purchase, which indicates the name and address of the seller, the date and place of purchase.
